Brief description of program

As Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Assistant Director for Community and Economic Vitality and Executive Director of the Community and Regional Development Institute (CaRDI), Rod provides leadership and support for programs which address community & economic vitality issues; fosters collaborative programming among faculty and off-campus Extension educators; and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with local, state, regional and national agencies and organizations. 

Rod fosters the integration of research and extension for the benefit of NYS communities; articulates the research base for community and economic development programming; engages faculty and educators in multidisciplinary research questions and issues; and fosters Campus/Association collaborations for targeted grant opportunities.  Research supports training and policy initiatives.  Foci include community economic development, sustainable communities, land use, capacity building, agriculture and food systems development, and community and energy.  State and local decision makers are key audiences.  CaRDI supports informed decision making.
