Program goals 

Understand the interactive forces of systems and markets in the rapid integration of renewable energy

Brief description of program 

Dr. Anderson investigates operational methods for more effective use and integration of renewable energy. Major shifts in world paradigm (agricultural, industrial and internet revolutions) have occurred over decades, but the current shift in energy is happening far more rapidly. The complexity and evolution of the current energy infrastructure and climate lead to a challenging technical, operational and economic problem. Her approach is multidisciplinary, combining engineering, mathematics and economics to better understand the interactive forces of systems and markets. This approach will lead to innovative and effective solutions in the energy industry. One current research thrust is wind integration in electric power systems and markets.
